The work of a Firefighter (sneak peek)

Terry has been a firefighter for close to 10 years now. He is on call 24 hours a day and volunteer's his time to show others what he does. He visits many organizations and is also available at the fire station for special events. Thursday was no exception. Him and a few other fire fighters took an old car and used their jaws of life equipment and tools to demonstrate the tasks it takes to remove a severly injured person from an automobile.

Although we had a little rain that morning, the sky was sunny and bright by the time they started the demonstration. It was around 80 degrees in the air and even worse inside their turn-out gear. The heat alone takes a toll on these guys.
They started with a whole car and then remove piece by piece until they can bend the entire car in a way where the individual can be taken out with the least amount of movement. Here they are removing the passenger side door.
After both doors are removed. They remove the roof. After the roof, they have to cut the car in certain spots so that they can bend the car. This next picture shows Terry using a saw to make some cuts. Here is Terry next to his best friend Bud. They are usually partners when it comes to house fires and such. Often times, they are the two that enter the burning building. Bud promised me that he would never let anything happen to Terry.
This is what the car looked like when it was all done. This is what my husband looked like when he was all done.
